Jane Getter, the "first lady of fusion rock" is one of the most exciting and innovative guitarist/composers on the contemporary urban scene today. She's played in the Saturday Night Live Band, with Jaimoe from The Allman Brothers Band, toured with electric jazz masters Ursula Dudziak, Jack McDuff, Lenny White, Michael Urbaniak, and others. She is that rare female instrumentalist who leads a powerful and aggressive band of expert players, whose names are widely known as sidemen to legends of the jazz and rock scene. Getter's live audience knows that she commands a wide array of emotions. Her earthy blues sensibility and dazzling harmonics gives this urban music powerhouse a unique and special character.
Over the past few years, Jane has been featured in Guitar Player Magazine's "Sessions" section. With her debut CD on Lipstick Records in 1999, Jane received worldwide critical acclaim. Now, Getter’s ambitious second CD titled See Jane Run has been released by the Alternity Records label, in June of 2005. Alternity Records just recently released a definitive 2-CD set by English jazz and progressive rock guitar legend Allan Holdsworth. Early in 2005 Getter’s band opened up for Holdsworth at New York City’s prestigious and hip music spot, BB King’s.
Getter’s husband, and musical collaborator, keyboardist Adam Holzman co-produced See Jane Run which covers a broad range of compositional territory, from the blistering urban fusion groove’s of “The Loop,” to compelling vocal ballads like, “Did I Ever Tell You.” Holzman has performed, toured and recorded with some of the biggest names in jazz and funk. Holzman dazzled audiences worldwide with his keyboard improvisations and stylings as musical director and keyboardist with Miles Davis, and has played in the bands of Chaka Khan, Grover Washington Jr., Wayne Shorter, and others including his own ensemble Brave New World, and has recently performed with a younger generation of jazz luminaries such as Wallace Roney.
Bassist James Genus can be seen every Saturday Night in The Saturday Night Live Band. He's played with many greats including The Brecker Brothers, Chick Corea, Bob Berg and many others, and is known as one of the great groove masters holding down the bottom on the NYC scene. Drummer Keith Carlock consistently thrills audiences with his arsenal of percussive dynamics, having supported and recorded recently with the likes of Steely Dan, Sting, and Chris Botti.
Vocalist Thulani has her own band whose music blends R&B, funk and African styles. Her single "I'll Be There For You" was a hit for Polygram. She's opened for Groove Theory, sang backups for E Jam, and Spike Rebel. She also plays the Sabar drum from Senegal.
At the center of this musical maelstrom is one of the guitar’s most refreshing and engaging voices – that of Jane Getter. See Jane Run is a most satisfying exploration of her musical instincts with one of the most talented and engaging bands to come out of the New York scene during this millennial decade…
